IRPLAST WILL BE EXHIBITING AT HISPACK 2024 IN BARCELONA

From 7th to 10th May in BARCELLONA

High tech sustainable solutions to strengthen leadership on the Spanish and South American markets.

Irplast is back to Hispack (GRAN VIA, Hall 3G, Stand 128) to display their most recent innovations in BOPP films, Roll-fed Labels, Printed Adhesive Tapes and Multipack solutions. Greater environmental awareness among consumers and alignment with the new European legislative context on the circular economy have guided the Company’s strategy in renewing the product range.

Empoli (Florence, Italy), May 2024 – IRPLAST participates again from 7th to 10th May in Hispack Barcelona (GRAN VIA, Hall 3G, Stand 128), the European Packaging Fair, where it will exhibit its entire range of sustainable BOPP films, Printed Adhesive Tapes and Roll-fed Labels

Thanks to major investments in the implementation of innovative solutions – inspired by the four criteria of sustainability (renew, recycle, reduce and reuse) – the new portfolio of NOPP, NOPP+ and LOOPP films are all inserted in the ISCC PLUS certified supply chain (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification), which thanks to the Mass Balance approach, ensures identical properties compared to traditional fossil-based BOPP for printing and packaging machines, with complete food contact approval.

Reduction of film thicknesses and weights, the design of specific layers for monomaterial solutions for complete recyclability, the introduction of renewable and chemically recycled raw materials, and the systematic reuse of internal waste to slash the CO2 emissions of the products represent key components of the Company business strategy.

The use of alternative raw materials from renewable sources has enabled IRPLAST to provide customers with “carbon neutral” solutions which are immediately implementable, without having to change packaging standards, appearance or machinery installations.

Irplast’s sustainable innovation has enabled to produce matte, “no label look”, and soft-touch labels, multipack solutions and handles for multipacks for glass bottles, all with a recycled or bio-based content of up to 84%, according to the mass balance approach.

This important goal has been achieved by introducing “bio-circular” adhesives, which were obtained from production waste of organic origin (from wood processing) and ISCC PLUS certified, applied to BOPP film manufactured with raw materials derived from renewable sources, which are also ISCC PLUS certified.

The same innovation applies to IRPLAST’s GREENLINE of adhesive tapes – which ensures identical mechanical properties to traditional tape – made with NOPP, NOPP+ and LOOPP films and which guarantee 94% sustainable content (on a mass balance approach), thanks to raw materials from renewable sources and adhesives obtained from wood processing waste (both raw materials and adhesive are ISCC PLUS certified).

IRPLAST’s Labelling showcase offers the highlights:

  • PREGLUED4CANS a BOPP roll-fed label, with pre-applied adhesives with proprietary technology to decorate aluminium cans, tins, aerosol containers at 360°. It is suitable for replacing paper labels or serigraphy on cans.
  • MULTIPACK for multipack packages, to bundle up to 6 units at a time. The self-adhesive multipack bundle is made of 100% mono-material BOPP, completely recyclable, using water-based adhesives applied to the polypropylene base without solvents. It is a valuable solution for brand owners to group and sell together more product units, while maintaining brand integrity. With Multipack Irplast has been successfully performing on the Spanish multi-pack packaging market for over 20 years, particularly in the beverage sector. Suitable for a wide range of packaging – plastic bottles (PET and HDPE), bricks, rigid packs and soft bags, heat-sealed packs and pouches – Multipack allows increased sales and expanded printed surfaces on which to convey the brand message.

COMPANY PROFILE

IRPLAST is a leader in the production of bi-axially oriented polypropylene films using simultaneous stretching, of printed wrap-around labels for bottles and containers, and of printed adhesive tapes and multipack solutions, for the food & beverage, dairy, personal care and home care markets. The vertical integration in production – from film extrusion to printing processes – positions Irplast as a key partner for all the principal international brands in the food & beverage sector, where a high degree of product customisation and continuous on-site technical assistance make the difference.

Back in 1999, IRPLAST was the first company in Europe in the packaging world to commission and operate a LISIM simultaneous stretching line for BOPP. In 2023 the Company signed a contract with Bruckner Maschinenbau for the delivery of a new LISIM line for BOPP production. The new line – which will reach full operation at the end of 2025 – will add a further 25,000 tonnes capacity for specialty BOPP films, practically doubling the current company production. The new line is dedicated to the production of films for fully recyclable packaging structures, conceived as mono-material PP laminates, with mechanical and thermal resistance properties tailor-made for the market requirements to have fully recyclable complex packaging structures in line with EU directives.

Irplast employs over 380 people working in its 3 fully automated production sites: one based in Empoli (Florence), specialized in printing labels and adhesive tapes and two in Atessa (Chieti) producing BOPP films.

The company exports over 75% of turnover, to 70 countries worldwide. In 2023, the annual turnover reached € 107 million.
