IRPLAST’S INNOVATION ON DISPLAY AT IPACK IMA 2025

FROM MAY 27th TO MAY 30th IN MILAN

 Hall 4 – Stand A57 B58

NEW FILMS FOR FULLY RECYCLABLE MONOMATERIAL MULTILAYER SOLUTIONS

THE COMPANY TRIPLES PRODUCTIVITY AND ACCELERATES THE GREEN TRANSITION

IRPLAST – a company now part of the Japanese group Toppan – is a leader in the production of biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) films for specialty flexible packaging and for the manufacturing and printing of labels, adhesive tapes and multipack solutions.

Empoli-Florence (Italy), May 2025 – Irplast will exhibit in Milan – from May 27th to May 30th – at IPACK-IMA, the trade show for processing & packaging (Hall 4, Stand A57 B58). The spotlight will be on its new BOPP films developed for complex multilayer monomaterial structures, designed to meet the highest European regulatory, environmental, and technical standards (PPWR – Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation), increasingly required in strategic sectors such as large-scale retail, food, and beverage. These films are intended for packaging applications including pouches for pet food and lidding films for food trays.

In 2019, IRPLAST was the first company in Europe, in the food packaging sector, to launch solutions made from both renewable and chemically recycled post-consumer raw materials, ISCC PLUS certified. These films offer the same technical performance and food-contact compliance as conventional films made from virgin materials.

IRPLAST’s sustainable film range includes: NOPP (Natural Oriented Polypropylene), derived from renewable sources such as tall oil and resins from wood processing waste; NOPP+ made from waste-based vegetable feedstocks (UCO – used cooking oil), not involving the use of agricultural land (no-ILUC) or animal derivatives; and LOOPP, produced from pyrolysis oil obtained through the chemical recycling of post-consumer materials. All NOPP, NOPP+ and LOOPP films are suitable for all sectors currently using BOPP. Also showcased will be the GREENLINE range of sustainable adhesive tapes made with circular LOOPP and biocircular NOPP, NOPP+ raw materials.

Innovation remains central to the Group’s growth. To strengthen its market position in Europe, IRPLAST has invested not only in R&D for sustainable solutions, but also in the acquisition of a new Brückner Maschinenbau LISIM technology line, which will be operational by the end of 2025 and will enable the production of 30,000 tonnes of specialty films, tripling current production capacity. The line will be dedicated to producing recyclable PP monomaterial structures, with tailor-made thermal and mechanical properties, delivering the same machinability and shelf-life performance, even under extreme conditions such as sterilization and pasteurization processes. The properties of LISIM-produced BOPP films make them a viable alternative to materials such as PET and aluminium, enabling the creation of complete packaging structures by combining the versatility of polypropylene with advanced technology and film design.

The use of alternative raw materials from renewable sources has allowed IRPLAST to offer customers “carbon neutral” solutions that are immediately implementable without requiring changes to the supply chain. These films are recyclable within standard polyolefin waste streams and are also available in ISCC PLUS certified versions (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification). They possess the same chemical, physical, and mechanical properties as traditional BOPP films and ensure excellent print quality on high-speed machines.
