IRPLAST:
CONCRETE RESULTS AND AMBITIOUS TARGETS FOR ETHICAL GOVERNANCE AND A LOWER ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

CEO Fausto Cosi: “Our commitment to responsible business continues to grow. Integrating profitability with environmental impact reduction is key to long-term competitiveness.”

Empoli (FI), August 4, 2025 – IRPLAST has released its 2024 Sustainability Report. Now in its fifth edition, the report reaffirms the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact and promoting a corporate culture centered on sustainability.

In line with the new European Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), this year’s edition introduces a new reporting approach based on the principle of double materiality, which evaluates sustainability topics from both an environmental and social perspective and in terms of their economic and financial relevance to the company. By aligning with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), IRPLAST is proactively embracing international ESG reporting best practices in an increasingly competitive market.

Sustainability is at the core of IRPLAST’s business model, leading to a reduction in film thickness, a growing use of raw materials from renewable sources and chemical recycling, and the recovery of materials for use in new production cycles. These efforts support the development of recyclable monomaterial multilayer packaging, an ideal alternative to complex multimaterial structures, and fully compliant with new EU regulations such as the PPWR. These solutions match the technical and mechanical performance of virgin materials while significantly reducing CO₂ emissions.

Energy consumption has also been reduced, with 60% of electricity purchased from renewable sources. Additionally, product and life cycle certifications (Life Cycle Assessment – LCA) have strengthened IRPLAST’s position as a leading global player in sustainable polypropylene packaging.

During the year, the company developed new multipack handles for bottled water, reducing thickness by 20% compared to standard market solutions. Moreover, the internal reuse of industrial scrap increased thanks to improved separation processes and the installation of a regranulation system, boosting the share of mechanically recycled material. In regenerated-film products, the recycled content rose from 34% to 50%, reaching up to 80%. This regenerated material is used at the Empoli plant to manufacture Eco+Tape adhesive tapes.

For the fourth consecutive year, IRPLAST was included in Forbes’ list of the top 100 Italian companies recognized for their commitment to sustainability. The company also participated in the Sustainability Award, promoted by RepRisk, which confirmed the soundness of IRPLAST’s ESG risk management approach.

“Sustainability is at the heart of every company decision,” commented Fausto Cosi, CEO of IRPLAST.

“Once again, this year, we achieved solid financial results, driven by significant investments in technological innovation directly aligned with our sustainability goals. Growing responsibly by combining profitability with environmental impact reduction creates long-term value.”

IRPLAST continues to actively engage stakeholders in its strategic and decision-making processes. Internal contributions from employees help improve the working environment and overall well-being, while feedback from partners and clients is key to defining operational targets and improving service quality and efficiency. Supplier engagement is also a strategic priority, enabling the company to enhance performance, address future challenges, and contribute positively to local and industry development.

IRPLAST has reinforced its long-standing commitment to health and safety in the workplace by integrating these themes into its management practices and operational processes. A formal health and safety management system has been adopted, including enhanced worker training, improved accident reporting and management protocols, and updated prevention procedures—particularly in high-risk areas. These initiatives reflect the company’s commitment to fostering a safer, more informed work environment, aligned with social sustainability principles and human capital protection.

The IRPLAST Code of Ethics defines the company’s core values and behavioural guidelines, strengthening a corporate culture based on compliance and professionalism, and reinforcing trust between the company and its stakeholders.
